Volunteer With Jewish Family Service

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Jewish Family Service. Your time, compassion, and commitment make it possible for us to serve hundreds of individuals and families across our community each year.

Whether you can give a few hours a month or want to become deeply involved, there are meaningful and gratifying ways to make a difference.

Ways You Can Help

Since 1972, JFS has delivered nutritious kosher and specialized meals to older adults throughout the Greater Harrisburg community at little or no cost.

Volunteers play a vital role by:

  • Delivering meals with a friendly smile
  • Supporting meal packing and preparation
  • Providing brief but meaningful social connection to homebound seniors

Specialized meals are available for individuals managing diabetes, high blood pressure, or other health conditions. Every delivery nourishes both body and spirit.

Each month, hundreds of community members receive support through the JFS Food Pantry. The pantry offers non-perishable food (Kosher and non-Kosher), fresh produce, personal care items, and pet food for families in need.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Stocking shelves
  • Cleaning
  • Personal shopping with our clients
  • Organizing food drives
  • Food Pickup from local vendors

Your help ensures neighbors have access to essential items with dignity and respect.

Two’s Company matches Jewish seniors with caring volunteers for regular, one-to-one visits that build meaningful connection and friendship. Volunteers spend time playing games, reading, watching television, sharing stories, or simply enjoying conversation.

As seniors face life changes that can increase isolation, your presence can reduce loneliness, strengthen community, and bring joy to someone’s week.

Volunteers are thoughtfully matched based on shared interests and availability, with safety and dignity always a priority.

Make a difference — one visit at a time.

Fundraising & Community Outreach

JFS relies on community generosity to sustain and grow our services. Volunteers help:

  • Organize fundraising events
  • Support donor engagement efforts
  • Assist with educational outreach programs

These efforts strengthen the financial foundation that makes our mission possible.

Bring Your Talents

The opportunities listed above are just the beginning. At JFS, we believe volunteers bring unique skills, passions, and ideas. We are committed to helping you find a meaningful role that fits your interests and availability.
