Join us in recognizing 50 years of sustaining our community by providing meal delivery to homebound seniors in Central Pennsylvania. This celebration recognizes one of the many critical services that JFS provides to over 1,300 people annually, and marks the significant milestone of having served more than 250,000 meals to local homebound seniors, along with many other life-saving health and human services that our community relies upon. 

Founded in 1972 after the June flood, the KMOW program relies on volunteers who not only deliver meals, but also a friendly visit (at a time where solitude is worrisome). Caring for the all aspects of the participant’s life, clients are evaluated by a social worker to determine if additional services are needed and receive two follow up visits per year to assess any changes. 

On June 9, 2022, more than 500 community members will gather to celebrate 50 years of community service with guest speaker, four-time James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Solomonov. 

Solomonov is a critically acclaimed chef, author and philanthropist who was recognized as the: 

• 2011 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic 
• 2016 James Beard Award winner for International Cooking and Book of the Year for “Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking”, along with business partner, Steve Cook 
• 2017 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Chef 
• 2019 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Restaurant, along with business partner Steve Cook and the team at Zahav 

As the keynote, Solomonov will speak about his passion for food-based non-profits and the role they play in strengthening communities. As a three-time James Beard winning chef, author and restauranteur, Solomonov will share insight into the resources necessary to ensure communities get access to nutritious food.
