With so many community members having experienced losses over the past 2 years, JFS leans into this trend to offer an online Grief Support Group. A member of the community suggested this was a missing resource and JFS rose to the occasion. The grief group is designed for anyone who has lost a significant loved one recently.
On March 9th, from 11AM to 12PM, running for 6 consecutive Wednesdays, JFS’ own Marjorie Koch will offer this online grief support group. Marjorie is looking forward to facilitating this support group as a welcoming place to show up and share your loss with others in similar circumstances. Of course, the group is completely confidential. Marjorie notes that the healing process is most powerful when an individual can help others, and this will certainly be the case with this group. Moreover, sharing one’s sorrow with others on your same journey has an almost magical power of lifting one’s burdens.
Covid has made grief more complex than it already is. Over the past 2 years, the typical grieving traditions and rituals have all been either made virtual or drastically altered. People have been left feeling isolated. People have been left feeling alone. A grieving person sometimes just needs the presence of others and even a hug, both things ofttimes unavailable during the Pandemic. The simple act of sitting Shiva just is not the same through a computer. And some do not feel safe when the Shiva house is open due to the Covid variants.
